"Gay Friendly" Hotel

Since I have a meeting in Brussels tomorrow morning at 8.30, my secretary booked a hotel in the neighbourhood where I will stay tonight. Just visited their website. General: Parking, Restaurant, Pets allowed, Bar, 24 hour Front Desk, Newspapers, Non Smoking Rooms, Rooms/Facilities for Disabled, Elevator, Express checkin/checkout, Safe deposit box, Heating, Luggage storage, Gay friendly.

Gay friendly? What does that mean? Non gay unfriendly? Dark room available? Can I expect YMCA guys singing in the lobby? Would I get a discount if I say I'm gay? Help me out guys, I'm confused..

I think it means they supply the towels... The pool area may be a little edgy. I travel some and have never heard this term. Be careful where you step and disinfect the remote whatever you do.

Hey Pirate, welcome!

No such things here.

Just had diner here and it really is a place with "more than average" male couples. Friendly people, no macho stuff, a good meal and fine wine.

Great hotel as far as I am concerned. Still haven't found out what Gay friendly marketing means..

Well, there is a gay travel market out there and partly because some places apparently are not too gay friendly.

Double income couples, usually no kids... good travel marketing wouldn't want to miss that!

Guess you're right Gary, I am still wondering however what specific services will be given when a hotel is gay friendly (besides the stuff Pirate is talking about which is not the case here). Just saying your gay friendly makes no sense to me.

Gay friendly means that we (gays & lesbians) can actually be ourselves without fear of condecending attitudes or behavior from staff. Believe it or not, people still hate us for no reason but being who we are in public.
PIRATE,, I always watch where I step and I would disinfect the remote and phone too, but not because I thought straight people were there before me, but for the extra sanitation part,, germs don't care if you are gay or straight, and gays carry no more germs than your average redneck from the hills of Appalachia ( I can say that being a redneck queer from NC)
So, some hotels do offer special rates to gay travelers who mention certain clubs or events. It is savvy business and most 'gay friendly' hotels are upscale and definitely not roach infested hot beds of sexual orgies. I prefer gay friendly hotels because you can be yourself, if you want to touch (in an appropriate public manner) your partner in the lounge, restaurant or bar, or hold their hand as you walk to your room, you don't have to feel intimidated by narrow minded people looking down their noses at you.
Also, most hotels, gay friendly or not supplied the towels, and as far as edgy pools,, I have stayed at a Best Western with a confrence of Jehovah Witness churches,,, that was edgy.

Hope you enjoyed the stay in Brussels, the neighborhood that the hotel was in most likely had something to do with it being gay friendly also!! and did the YMCA guys arrive to greet you!!! lol

Thanx for your sincere reply Scott. I truly believe that every hotel in the Netherlands is gay friendly. In fact I think Holland is gay friendly (but I'm no expert). That's perhaps why we don't see specific gay friendly ads or marketing means of expression.

Indeed enjoyed the stay despite the fact that YMCA guys (nor Jehova's for that matter) didn't provide for the disco..

We can only hope that one day America will be as enlightened that the crass commercialism of it will be unnessesary. Most forget the role that the Netherlands played in our intellectual/political freedoms here,, but I haven't.
Definitely a place I want to visit very soon,, I will most likely be found in the Art galleries and museums.

Ahhhh ...

So THAT'S what gay friendly means.

I really hate labels, and the word "gay". Makes heterosexual people as if we are not naturally happy (lol).

Any "heterosexual friendly" hotel out there Dimitri? ;)

Good idea to start one perhaps..

Dimitri, I think we found ourselves a new business ...

They use that term in New Orleans a lot. It generally means, "You will find people like yourself here and not a lot of families with screaming snot-nosed kids running around messing up your hotel experience, who should be at Disney World and not New Orleans anyways." ;)

Well I just got back from the gym and I am beat. I am currently doing some research on knoxville discount hotels and stumbled across your blog. Which cracks me up really. The internet can certainly land you off base sometimes. Even though your blog is not completely related I think it is a cool blog. I have read back through the archives and lots of people make some very good points. Well I have been on-line forever it seems. I need to continue to plug away at knoxville discount hotels. If you have the energy swing by http://www.savings-on-hotels.com/. I try to update my site weekly and maybe you will see something you like. I already snagged your URL and put it in my favorites. If you do not mind I will be back again. Great job!
