Paralyzed

Last week we celebrated our annual top 200. This is when we invite our European top management to a gathering where we share annual figures and future strategy. Since we are being taken over and delisted from the stock exchange within a few months it was in fact a very strange meeting. Many people asked me about their jobs and future roles. I tried to be as positive as possible but what can you say if in fact you can't tell anything at the moment?

Since I'm kind of a jobhopper -at least I was (gettin' older now), I don't worry too much about having or finding a job. But a lot of my colleagues do and this has a kind of paralysing effect on many of them. Today I felt the same for the first time in my life. I felt benumbed and indeed paralyzed. Tried to study but it didn't work. Ended up at 14.00h with mrs. in our favourite brasserie in Amsterdam where we just enjoyed eating and drinking and sharing thoughts with the owners.

I am going to sleep early tonight and take a deep breath tomorrow morning. I have to be positive again monday morning, that's what I am payed for. And I will be..

I wish you all a pleasant and relaxing weekend.

P.S. I'm gaining weight, you see that? It's the pants right?

Is that you clapping, Dimitri? Don't worry about the paralysis . . . it will pass! When I am struck by it, I use the time to catch up on my reading. Sounds like you found something to do that was just as relaxing!

Funny about the pants, Dimitri.

It sounds like your industry is in transition, which explains your unsure feelings. It's difficult to answer questions that it's impossible to forsee, but I bet you'll be alright. You look happy, and by American standards, you're a twig, even if you feel a bit... cherubby. Hope you have a great weekend, too.

I admire your ability to build people up even when your own pathway is uncertain. A sign of a true leader.

I have to ask about the photo. Did you forget your watch, do you wear a pocket watch, or do you have precise internal clock that always knows the current time?

What a tough position to be in Dimitri. Good Luck! I know you'll pull through ok.

Good pic! You don't look weight-y. :)

it's always the pants, they give you away every time!

don't feel bad, I'm facing a total career change, divorce, possible deportation (soon to be ex's tax tricks), all with 3 kids - and my pants too just became a little tighter - can you tell??

I'm also a few years older than you - and much more stodgy, and set in my old lady ways, who knows what will happen to me....

personally I think we'll both be fine (she types hopefully) good luck on Monday!

I like to believe that pants easily shrink. So if they start getting tight that just means you have washed them too often and they have shrunk and it is time to buy some new ones.

Times of uncertainity and change, always difficult, especially with a takover. It can be likened to a divorce, as it's a separation from a past management relationship.

The feelings are natural enough, but usually most peoples skills remain in demand.

Best wishes
