New Dutch car design for near future

At least 55 percent of Dutch people believe they are too fat. While 53 percent have tried on one or more occasions to tackle the problem, few have achieved satisfactory results, according to research by market research firm Motivaction on behalf of television programme 'Netwerk'. Experts estimate about 50 percent of the population is overweight. Government campaigns on obesity have had little impact, Motivaction said.

Oh those fat Dutch people! Join the most popular club in the developed world (the Japanese are having to work harder, but are coming along).

We're wired to eat and to survive, our genetics tell us that fats are really, really good to eat... sugars too. Ymmmm.

Now we've got food beyond belief to choose from (many of us). What do I choose? Sometimes too much and sometimes the wrong things.

I have another theory - people are getting fat because many are isolated, lonely and don't feel a sense of belonging. Food, alcohol, drugs, obsessive fitness activity and some other habits are all adaptations - all seeking love.

Hey, that was a pretty heavy post for me (not fat, mind you, but rather heavy)

Well I can tell you if my Dutch friends here are any indication the Dutch love their food and have a sweet tooth. We used to frequent a Dutch cafe for Sunday afternoons and you always felt well and truly satisfied afterwards!!

But DA your not one of the other 50% of the population judging from the last photo.

I would say you’re just about right. As Gary says, you can carry additional say 5-10lbs over in store in case you need it if your laid low to meet leaner times!!

A substantial part of eating for many is "comfort” I agree!! But I would add in “and to reward oneself “
For the next 3 weeks I have to watch my eating as I succeeded in fracturing my elbow and won’t be as active, see my last comment attached to my last posting.

Best wishes

I bet if you all came to visit America, you'd leave feeling like you were emaciated. Summer's coming here, (already in the seventies and will be well over a hundred before we know it), so I'm trying to loose my winter tummy and flub quickly. I'm telling you, if you just keep moving, only drink water and black coffee or tea, and try to mostly just have raw fruits and veggies when you're hungry before dinner, it's almost too easy...

ANyway, this was funny, thanks for the laugh.

That car looks like it's been in a microwave! Or, it looks like peeps look when they've been in the microwave.

What a great use of airbags. I could parallel park that car with impunity.

I agree with Kat, you haven't seen fat yet until you come here.

Interesting concept on the car deal.

I think you can thank us Americans for the fast food places we have imported. According to new studies that is why the French are suddenly getting fat. As we know most French foods are full of fat and they love sugar, but there has been a true increase in people gaining weight since McDonalds and other fast food places opened there.

I am not fond of the car's appearance; however, different strokes for different folks.

When I started coming to the Low Countries about 13 years ago, I saw a lot less overweight and obese people than I do now. A decade ago, I saw more adults walking and biking. Now, I see people driving 500M to the store and driving their kids to school. (And lots of SUVs and gigantic Audis and Mercedes on the road. I have even seen HUMMERs. Eeek!) And yes, the Dutch and the Flemish love to eat. Plus, urban sprawl seems to be infecting Belgium and the Netherlands--which usually means that you have to drive to work, market, etc. Lots of food + lots of good beer + no exercise = a wide backside.

Ohh I appreciate all of your comments. And I guess you are right, food is comforting in a way. For me it is for sure. I wonder though if we would be so lonely as the people in the USA..

Lindsay, best of luck with your elbow my friend. At least you have another one to eat with:-)
