Not the way to succes.. or not?

"Never write when you can talk. Never talk when you can nod. And never put anything in an e-mail" is what Eliot Spitzer, New York state attorney general, proclaims to be the golden rule for succes. "Choose your mistakes carefully" by Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist is another one. See the rules on Business 2.0 and decide for yourself if this is gold or utter utter cra%^.. Be yourself!

Many years a MD gave me some advice ........avoid putting too much in writing .........give advice verbally if you must but try and restict any written decisions to those where an "expert" re inforces your writen confirmation. I didn't take his advice fully, as I think its called "lets blame someone else" if anything ever goes wrong.

I have found it helpful to stand up to your own guiding “principles” when faced with difficult choices as it an expression of who you are and what you stand up for …..Not to compromise your position for the "group" or company It's helped me win respect with some battles. At times it’s seemed to work against me, maybe some sacrifices or opportunities lost but you retain your integrity. On the whole it’s worked very well for me.

And as for that MD, it wasn’t a problem as he soon became busy and anxious to appoint someone below him to “handle” any difficulty. Someone of a different persuasion.

Thank you for your reply Lindsay.

I would say that sometimes rowing against the stream (own guiding priciples) is beneficial. Sometimes it's not. It's not easy to judge that upfront but when you follow your intuition you do the right thing and that is trusting yourself.

Love you,

Thanks for this. I looked over the list I like 'conventional wisdom is always wrong'.

I have to admit to loving Yogi Berra, a famous US baseball player - he once said, "When you come to a fork in the road, take it."

He also said, "That was deja vu all over again."
